Volunteers from Divine Mercy parish serve two prisons in the Dallas Diocese.
Federal Correctional Institution, Seagoville, TX
Volunteers lead a weekly bible study and procure bibles, catechisms, faith study resources and other devotional items for the Catholic community. Other diocesan volunteers provide weekly Communion service. When a priest is available, He will celebrate Mass on weekends and holy days of obligation and provide the sacrament of Reconciliation. Third-year deacon candidates may also be assigned as part of their formation.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Hutchins Unit, TX
Volunteers serve on the RCIA instructor team for the spring and fall sessions. They also conduct a Praise & Worship service on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month, bringing contemporary Christian music, the Word of God, biblical teaching and prayer to the brothers who experience healing and life-changing encounters with the Holy Spirit. Other diocesan volunteers provide Communion service on Sundays, produce the semi-annual Kolbe retreat, and facilitate the Live Christ Share Christ new evangelization program. When a priest is available, He will celebrate Mass on weekends and holy days of obligation, provide the sacrament of Reconciliation, and celebrate Mass for sacraments of initiation. Third-year deacon candidates may also be assigned as part of their formation.
