"At three o'clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony.  This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world.  I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow.  In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion...(Diary, 1320)

Why the Seven Deadly Sins are Deadly: Greed & Envy

      By Fr. Dwight Longenecker
      2/23/2012
      Catholic Online catholic.org

In our modern world it seems downright medieval to talk about the seven deadly sins. It doesn't matter if something comes from the middle ages or the prehistoric age. If it's true its true in every age, and the seven deadly sins are a pretty good summary of what's wrong with the world because they're a good summary of what's wrong with me and you. For Lent this column will zip through the seven deadly sins and see how they're killing our culture.

Pope Benedict XVI Instructs the Faithful on the Journey of Spiritual Renewal in the 40 Days of Lent

      • By Pope Benedict XVI

      • Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)
The Christian liturgy of Lent is intended to facilitate a journey of spiritual renewal in the light of this long biblical experience and especially to learn how to imitate Jesus, who in the forty days spent in the desert taught how to overcome temptation with the Word of God. Cardinal Dolan: Cannot Rest When Faced with so Grave a Threat to Religious Liberty

      • By Deacon Keith Fournier
      • 2/23/2012
      • Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)
"If the government can, for example, tell Catholics that they cannot be in the insurance business today without violating their religious convictions, where does it end? This violates the constitutional limits on our government, and the basic rights upon which our country was founded.Much remains to be done. We cannot rest when faced with so grave a threat to the religious liberty for which our parents and grandparents fought. In this moment in history we must work diligently to preserve religious liberty and to remove all threats to the practice of our faith in the public square." (Timothy Cardinal Dolan)

Evangelize with courage, conviction, joy, pope says

      By Sarah Delaney
      Catholic News Service

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI said that a proper transmission of the faith to the young or the uninitiated depends on a solid grounding of the basics of Catholic formation -- baptism, first Communion and catechism.

      Easter

The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or better, as one "great Sunday".  These above all others are the days for the singing of the Alleluia.  The days of the Easter octave form the "early hours" of this "great Sunday," with accounts of the Lord who rose early in the morning, and the early preaching of the disciples who were witnesses to his resurrection.
